Dr. Dorian Lara

Dr. Dorian Lara (or Dr. Dorian) is originally from Southern California and went to UC Davis for a biology degree. He then moved to Perth, Australia to attend veterinary School at Murdoch University, where we has president of the surgery club and student association (MVSA). After vet school, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to pursue advanced training in surgery at LSU. He worked in a non-profit/shelter setting for the a few years where he performed a wide variety of high-quality surgical procedures on animals in need. He now brings his wealth of surgical knowledge and skills to Metzler Veterinary Hospital. He is skilled in advanced soft tissue procedures such as thoracotomies (PDAs, PRAAs, lung lobectomies, etc), abdominal surgery (PPS attenuation (liver shunts), abdominal tumor removal, intestinal surgery, urinary bladder surgery (including ectopic ureters), and complex skin tumor removal that may require reconstructive techniques such as skin flaps or grafts. He is also proficient in orthopedic and neurologic surgery (fracture repair, cruciate ligament surgery (TPLO), luxating patellas, and hemilaminectomies.
